When I was growing up my dad raced a KJ which was a famous boat because hondo only pulled 2 of these boats out of the mold before it was destroyed. It was KJ-440 Hurry Round Hondo
I remember the races from lake ming, long beach, blue water, and puddingstone. I loved watching my dad race but there was one boat that I was always standing on the shoreline waiting to see and I was the first one at the ramp to see him come out of the water. It was Al Bush driving the Candy Apple Red flat bottom, CRAZY HORSE.
I was trying to look for some pics of him racing when the boat was red but dd not see any so I will look more when I have time. I did find this poster of him crashing so I thought I would post this up first.
If anyone has or can find a picture of him at full speed racing across the lake, would you please post it because to me, there was never anything more awesome looking then that boat flying across the water.
There was always something about the flatbottom with the driver sitting in plain view, big motor, killer wings hanging off the back and giant rooster tails that seemed to hang in the air forever............

This is a great picture Grumpy, THANK YOU. I do remember this boat but it was the very next one they built that was solid candy red and the numbers were gold leaf along with the name.....

Can you believe those guys were going over 150mph with open face helmets? It amazing my dads face doesn't look like he just came out of a wind tunnel now........ lol

Your Welcome and I have a few people looking around for more for you.

I know what you are saying about the open face helmets. Now a days most of the racers are going with full face helmets and capsules. But there is still alot of racers that would rather not have the capsule and enjoy the open air.
But if it was me in one of those blowin Hydro's that are doing 250 mph + @ 4 seconds on the liquid quarer mile think I would have a capsule also!
