So last Saturday night @ Ventura Raceway (in the VRA Main Event) Jesse Hawkett was in the lead with Matt Mitchell in a close 2nd. About halfway into the race a car (I can't remember exactly who it was) flipped in turn 3 and there was smoke pouring out of the car as he was upside down. Due to traffic, the officials were slow to get to the car with fire extinguishers. The caution flag went out and to the crowd's surprise Jesse Hawkett and Matt Mitchell pulled off into the infield and stopped as if it were a red flag. Then as the crash was being cleaned up, the decision was made by the officials to put them to the back. Bad call? What do you guys think?

I was there and this was the same night I got screwed in my main which prompted me to start this group.
I think Hawkett and Mitchell did the right thing by stopping. I got totally screwed for stopping on the track one night (even though I did not stop) and after the race they said "well, we made a mistake, nothing we can do about it now" and that is a direct quote.
I was at the drivers meeting this night and made sure to sit right in front so I could hear everything Cliff said. I have heard him say that stopping on the track for any reason would be considered a yellow flag charge against you but this night he did not say anything about it. I think they made a mistake by charging them with stopping on the track for a few reasons...
1, They are not regular racers at Ventura and that is a bad rule that should be talked about at every drivers meeting, especially at a big race like that where out of towners were there to race.
2. Anytime a car flips the red flag should be thrown for the safety of the drivers in the accident and the officials.
3. They should have given these guys the benefit of the doubt for stopping because they stopped on the track in the same turn the other car was upside down and possibly on fire with all the smoke.

There are a bunch of rules that need to be looked at and there needs to be one strict guideline for all of us to go bye no matter what division we are in. They seem to make up the rules each night the way they feel like it and it really sucks to be on the losing end of a bad call or made up rule........
