David Starr, a regular in the NASCAR Camping World Series, failed to make the field for the May 24th Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Starr, one of the ‘go-or-go-homers’ required to qualify on speed, ran a 47th fastest lap of 179.081 mph in the No. 06 Roni Deutch Tax Center Dodge. This was not good enough to make the 43-car field.

Todd Bodine will miss the May 24th Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
The team is outside the top 35 in owners points and not guaranteed a start in this weekend’s Cup race. The No. 64 Gunselman Motorsports Toyota driver’s qualifying speed of 182.426 mph, 46th fastest, was not good enough to make the cut for the event.

JJ Yeley’s qualifying speed not good enough to make the field for the May 24th Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Yeley, in for suspended Jeremy Mayfield, ran a lap of 184.093 mph in the No. 41 Toyota. It was 40th quickest. Since the team is outside the top 35 in owners points and required to qualify on speed, he did not make the cut.

Scott Riggs secures the last qualifying slot open to teams outside of the top 35 in owners points for the Lowe’s Motor Speedway Sprint Cup race.
Riggs’ lap of 184.433 mph in the No. 36 Tommy Baldwin Racing Toyota was 38th fastest in qualifying. He will line up 43rd for Sunday night’s Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600.

Mike Bliss runs quickest Lowe’s Motor Speedway qualifying lap of drivers required to make the field on time.
Of the drivers outside of the top 35 in owners points, Bliss’ lap of 187.422 mph in the No. 09 Phoenix Racing Dodge was the fastest. His qualifying speed puts him 7th in the lineup for Sunday night’s Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600.

Joey Logano is the top rookie qualifier for the May 24th Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Logano’s lap of 186.832 mph in the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota was 14th fastest, ahead of the rest of the 2009 ROTY contenders qualifying for Sunday night’s race.

Ryan Newman wins the Coors Light Pole Award for the COCA-COLA 600 with a lap of 28.651 seconds, 188.475 mph.
This is the No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet driver's 44th pole in 272 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. His first pole in the series came at the 2001 Coca-Cola 600. This is his eighth pole in 17 races at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Mark Martin leads the first practice for the May 24th Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Martin’s lap of 185.217 mph in the No. 5 CARQUEST/Kellogg’s Chevrolet was the quickest of the 47 cars out on the track for the first practice leading to Sunday night’s race. No. 48 Jimmie Johnson, No. 11 Denny Hamlin, No. 42 Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 83 Brian Vickers were the rest of the top 5 on the speed chart. No. 06 David Starr, at 175.844 mph, was the slowest in this session.

Carl Edwards tops the speed chart in the Happy Hour practice session for the May 23rd Nationwide Series Carquest Auto Parts 300 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Edwards ran a fast lap of 181.965 mph in the No. 60 Scotts Ford. No. 16 Greg Biffle, No. 98 Paul Menard, No. 6 David Ragan and No. 32 Brian Vickers rounded out the top 5 of the 48 cars out on the track. The No. 84 Chevrolet, driven by Mike Harmon, was the slowest (168.824 mph) in the final practice session.

Kyle Busch leads the first practice session for the May 23rd Nationwide Series Carquest Auto Parts 300 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Busch’s lap of 180.874 mph in the No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota was the quickest of the 49 cars running in this session. No. 60 Carl Edwards, No. 16 Greg Biffle, No. 32 Brian Vickers and No. 20 Joey Logano were the rest of the top 5 on the speed chart. Donny Lia, in the No. 07 SK Motorsports Toyota, at 161.507 mph, was the slowest.

Kurt Busch has been waiting for 77 days for the start of the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Busch and his Pat Tryson-led No. 2 Penske Racing Team last raced their "PRS-594" chassis in the March 8 Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Busch started the Atlanta race from the outside pole and went on to lead 234 of the 330 laps in posting his 19th career Sprint Cup victory

John Wes Townley has one career start at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
He finished 27th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Dollar General 300 on October 10, 2008. Townley will pilot chassis No. 032 in this weekend’s Carquest Auto Parts 300 at LMS. It was previously run in 2009 at Nashville where Townley finished the event 18th. He currently sits 29th in the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver point standings.

Robert Richardson, Jr. and the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors Chevrolet team is taking to Lowe’s Motor Speedway with a level of short-track anticipation.
Whenever a driver gets to race under the lights on a Saturday night, they are sure to be keyed up for the green flag. He has made 36 career NNS starts with a best finish of 16th at Talladega Superspeedway; which took place earlier this year. He has made five starts this year with best start of 29th and finish of 16th (Talladega). In his only previous start at LMS, he qualified 28th and finished 38th after getting caught up in a lap 79 wreck.

Scott Wimmer returns to the Key Motorsports No. 40 after taking a week off to drive the No. 5 NNS entry for JR Motorsports at Darlington.
It's been a while since Wimmer has made an NNS start at Lowe's Motor Speedway, as he did not race in Charlotte in 2008, but Scott has done several COT tests at the track over the course of the past year. The last time Wimmer started a spring race at Lowe's he sat on the outside pole and brought home a top-10 finish.

Oct. 12, 2007, at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Jason Keller became the NASCAR Nationwide Series all-time leader in starts making his 418th to surpass Tommy Houston.
He ranks third for most laps (5086) and miles (7629) in NNS career at Lowe’s. Keller finished in the top five in both NNS races at Lowe’s in 2001, including second to Greg Biffle in the Little Trees 300. He started 25th and finished 17th in the 2008 Carquest Auto Parts 300

Paul Menard has four Sprint Cup series career starts at the Lowe's Motor Speedway.
After finishing 15th two weekends ago at Darlington, Menard has compiled three top-15 finishes during the 2009 season with Yates Racing. In the Nationwide Series, Menard has four starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway with one top-five and one top-10 finish under his belt.

Bill Elliott, driving the No. 21 Motorcraft Ford for Wood Brothers Racing, will make his 800th career start Sunday in the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Elliott is currenty 7th in the all-time Sprint Cup start list behind Richard Petty (1184 starts), Ricky Rudd (906), Dave Marcis (883), Terry Labonte (883) and Kyle Petty (829). The rest of the top 10 are all active drivers: Sterling Marlin (744), Michael Waltrip (736) and Mark Martin (733). Only four of the top-10 have won a championship.

David Gilliland has already put in a lot of miles a Lowe's Motor Speedway in the past week finishing sixth in the Camping World Truck Series race and 15th in the All-Star Open event.
The team was able to take away a lot data from last weekend to apply to race this Sunday. Gilliland said. "We learned a lot by running the Open and the truck race. We went ahead and used some of the cautions during the Open to adjust on the car and learn for the 600."

Robby Gordon will pilot Chassis No. 300 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup season’s longest race of the year at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend.
After a strong run last weekend in the Sprint Showdown – starting 32nd and finishing 9th – the No. 7 Jim Beam / Operation Homefront team hopes to utilize what they learned last weekend and implement it into this weekend’s strategy for another solid result. Gordon will make his 18th start at the 1.5 mile track, with a best finish of 16th and looks to improve upon those statistics this weekend.
